BRICK TOWNSHIP — The township council at the March 25 meeting approved a resolution that would prohibit most tents and canopies on Brick’s ocean beaches this summer season.
According to the township, the resolution prohibiting most tents and canopies was passed in response to significant storm-related erosion along the ocean that has reduced the amount of space for beachgoers to spread out.
In recent years, the number of large tents and canopies on beaches has grown, according to the township.
The township said that the prohibition was created to provide as much space as possible.
Mayor Lisa Crate said, “We want to make going to our beautiful beaches a pleasant and safe experience for as many people as possible. Restricting tents and canopies will safeguard our beachgoers from potential hazards associated with overcrowding.”
