BRIELLE — The Brielle Library was filled wall to wall with paintings of flowers, horses and landscapes as the Manasquan River Group of Artists (MRGA) held an exhibition and awards ceremony this past Saturday.
The judges for the awards were David Levy, artist/historian and president of Guild of Creative Art and Barbara Biello Russo, graphic designer and vice president of Guild of Creative Art.
Levy told The Coast Star, “I love this particular group and I am so impressed by how very technically accomplished they are, but in many ways they are very fine artists and it is a challenge to find the absolute cream of the crop. It is even more fun when you are working with someone else, because when you work with someone else, that person can see things you might not see.”
According to Levy, to judge the art, the judges try to see them and try to feel them. Judges evaluate technique, composition, originality and impact or message.
“People are excited to participate,” said show director Tracy Miller, noting that MRGA members come from Monmouth and Ocean counties. “Even if they aren’t winning any awards, they are happy to be here.”
Vincent Nardon, vice president of MRGA said, “The tradition of having it for so many years, we’ve done this for 15 to 20 years. It’s our biggest show. It’s nice that we have the cooperation of the people and for the library to have us.”
According to Miller, the exhibition also served as a fundraising event for the library.
Sheila Soyster, president of the MRGA, said, “It’s wonderful to see the artwork, but it is also wonderful to have all of the people here to meet all of the artists.”
