The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning and a severe thunderstorm watch on Tuesday, July 1.
The flash flood warning is in effect until 9 p.m. for southeastern Monmouth and northeastern Ocean counties. The severe thunderstorm watch also runs until 9 p.m. for Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties.
Belmar Police Department shared to Facebook, “Sever thunderstorms have led to flooding throughout town. Numerous roads including Highway 35 are currently flooded and closed. If possible, avoid traveling until the storms have passed.”
The Borough of Belmar also issued a warning stating, “You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”
According to Monmouth County‘s emergency alerts, “State Route 71 is closed in both directions due to flooding. East Main Street is also flooded east of Potter. Please avoid the area until the flooding subsides.”
Wall Township Police shared to Facebook Tuesday night that multiple roadways are affected by the rain including Allenwood Road between Hwy 138 and Hurley Pond Road, which is closed due to flooding.
They added, “Wall Township Emergency Services are handling several calls for service.”
Point Pleasant Police have issued an alert warning residents to not attempt to drive through water. The alert at 6:10p.m. on Tuesday said, “Flash flood warning! … Turn around don’t drown.”
