MANASQUAN — The Manasquan Planning Board will meet on Tuesday, July 1 and is scheduled to hear an application requesting the demolition of The Salty Whale and Guesthouse and the subdivision of the property into five conforming lots.
Located at 390 E. Main St., the building has housed a number of restaurants over the years and is currently the operating location of The Salty Whale and Guesthouse, which first opened in 2018. A post to The Salty Whale’s Facebook page says the restaurant remains open.
The major subdivision application seeks to remove all structures on the property for a five-lot subdivision. The property lies in a residential single family zone. According to the application, the proposal seeks four 7,137 square foot lots and a 8,070 square foot fifth lot.
The applicant is 390 E. Main Street, LLC whose registered agent is Ralco Builders, located in Manasquan.
No variances are required for the proposed application, according to a letter from the planning board engineer Albert Yodakis that was submitted as part of the application.
The post to The Salty Whale’s Facebook page says, “Help us make Summer 2025 the best one yet! “We are still open, still have the same great staff and entertainment and still ready to welcome you with open arms!”
The post also says, “It’s with a heavy heart that we have come to the difficult decision to unbeach The Salty Whale and set her free when the time is right. Times and habits have changed, costs have skyrocketed and keeping up with her 100 + year old building has become unsustainable.”
The Manasquan Planning Board is set to meet at 7 p.m. on July 1 in the council chambers at Manasquan Borough Hall, located at 201 E. Main St.
