BRICK TOWNSHIP — Isabel Bartolucci, an Eagle Scout from Troop 39 in Brick was named the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign War’s Scout of the Year and was honored earlier this month by the NJVFW.
James Gillick, Scout Executive and CEO of Scouting America, Jersey Shore Council said, “We’re incredibly proud of Isabel and all that she has accomplished. Her leadership extends not just to her Scout troop, but in her school and other extracurricular activities as well.”
According to Gillick, Scouting has three basic goals, which are to help youth grow in character and leadership skill and instill in them a sense of positive achievement.
“Any time we can recognize young people for their accomplishments, we reinforce the idea that no goal is out of reach,” said Gillick.
According to Ken Hagemann, New Jersey state adjutant/quartermaster of VFW state headquarters said that the VFW was honored to recognize Bartolucci for her achievements.
Hagemann said, “Isabel demonstrated exemplary citizenship in school, Scouting and community and I have attached her submission. She was chosen as the best candidate amongst 17 other Scouts who made it to state judging.”
According to the quartermaster, the close relationship between the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Boy Scouts of America dates back 100 years when VFW Post 2100 teamed up with another civic organization to establish Troop 1 in Everett, Washington.
Hagemann said, “That century-long affiliation has fostered true patriotism, community service and strong, moral character throughout the ensuing decades. During World Wars I and II, Boy Scouts played a major part in helping collect food and other items to support the troops in the war. Since that time, Scouting has continued to be a supporter of the VFW and Scouts have grown up, joined the military, fought in wars and subsequently became members of the VFW.”
