BAY HEAD — The Bay Head Fire Company, with the help of Mantoloking Fire Department, responded to a car fire on Lake Avenue and Karge Street Tuesday night.
At approximately 8:02 p.m., the Bay Head and Mantoloking fire departments were dispatched to 56 Karge St. in Bay Head for a report of wires down on a vehicle. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle fully in flames.

It is unclear how the wires fell, but the power outages in the area prior may have led to the wires falling into the vehicle, according to Bay Head Fire Chief Andy Welsh.
With coordinated efforts from both departments, the fire was quickly brought under control and fully extinguished. All units cleared the scene safely by 8:30 p.m..

No injuries were reported, according to Chief Welsh.
This was the second fire the department responded to that day, with another happening in Mantoloking for a generator fire, and one of 11 other calls the department responded to on one of the hottest days of the year.
Chief Welsh told The Ocean Star, “On June 24, the Bay Head Fire Department responded to 11 calls for service within a 24-hour period. These included two fires, multiple alarm activations, an assist at a potential nursing home evacuation and a carbon monoxide incident. Throughout the day, the Bay Head and Mantoloking Fire Departments worked side by side to manage these emergencies efficiently.”
