BRICK TOWNSHIP — The township council unanimously adopted an ordinance at the June 17 council meeting to decrease the speed limit on River Road from 35 to 30 mph.
Council President Derrick Ambrosino said, “The Ocean County Engineering Department has requested the township support their recommendation to reduce the speed limit on River Road from 35 mph to 30 mph. The request is for the entire length of River Road from Route 70 to the township line with Point Pleasant.”
Ocean County conducted a speed survey to determine a recommendation for the speed limit River Road. The ordinance states that the data collected from the speed survey supports lowering the speed limit. According to the councilman, the request is for the entire length of Route 70 to the township line with Point Pleasant.
The Point Pleasant Borough council adopted a similar ordinance to reduce the speed limit on that town’s portion of River Road from 35 to 30 mph at its June 9 council meeting. In total, the full length of River Road is approximately two miles long.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing.
