BRIELLE — One longtime incumbent, Cort Gorham, failed to win a place on the ballot, while one incumbent, Christine Laufer, and former councilman Michael Gianforte, won the Republican primary Tuesday and will appear as council candidates on the November general election ballot.
The three Republican candidates vyed for the two spots on the ballot. Gorham and Laufer are currently on council, while Gianforte is a former council member.
Gianforte was the leading vote getter with 483 votes. Laufer received the second most votes, 443 votes and Gorham received 206 votes.
Gianforte said, “I am truly honored and blessed to have the opportunity to represent Brielle as a councilman. I want to thank everyone who put their trust in me—your support means the world.”
He continued, “I look forward to meeting with the citizens of our town, listening to their voices, and working together to ensure Brielle continues to thrive. It’s a privilege to serve, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Laufer said, “Thank you to all the poll workers, and my fellow Brielle residents. I am excited and honored for the opportunity to continue to serve on the Brielle Council.”
