POINT PLEASANT — At the start of next school year, the Point Pleasant School District will welcome two new principals, one at Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School and the other at Memorial Middle School.
Superintendent Adam Angelozzi said, “I am pleased to announce the appointments of two educational leaders to key principal positions within our district. Mr. Derek Hulse has been appointed principal of Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School, bringing his extensive leadership experience and deep familiarity after serving as assistant principal there since 2007. Mr. Matt Rusnak will lead Memorial Middle School, drawing upon his comprehensive leadership background at both the middle and high school levels and his strong understanding of pedagogy. Both Mr. Hulse and Mr. Rusnak are seasoned educators who are well-prepared to take the helm at the respective schools and continue our commitment to student success. We look forward to the positive impact they will have in their new roles.”
In September, Matt Rusnak will assume the principal position at the middle school and Derek Hulse at Nellie Bennett. They will be filling the roles of Gary Floyd and James Karaba, who will both retire at the end of this school year.
Rusnak told The Ocean Star, “I’m incredibly excited to become part of this vibrant community. I live locally with my wife and our two sons, and I enjoy staying involved in the surrounding area. I’m deeply committed to the success of our students and schools, and I look forward to building lasting relationships with families, staff and community members. I’m here to listen, lead with integrity and to make a positive impact.”
Hulse told The Ocean Star, “I’m excited to continue my professional journey here at Nellie F. Bennett School. I look forward to working alongside an incredible teaching team and support staff in an effort to maintain our strong commitment to educational excellence while simultaneously helping students to recognize and celebrate their full potential. I plan to lead by example and serve as a positive role model for all of our current and future students. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our board of education for this amazing opportunity, as well as the entire Point Pleasant community for their continued love and support. I am incredibly proud to be a Point Pleasant Panther.”
