BRIELLE — The Brielle Board of Education (BOE), at its April 30 meeting, unanimously adopted its 2025-2026 budget, highlighting a tax rate decrease for the third year in a row.
This year’s total revenue is set at $16,848,093, a $97,298 increase from last year’s budget of $16,750,795. The budget includes a local tax levy increase of 2%, or $298,180, to this year’s tax levy total of $15,207,204.
The tax rate, however, has decreased for a third year in a row, reducing from last year’s rate of 0.600235 to this year’s rate of 0.566424. For a home assessed at the borough average of $1,240,332, this equates to a tax bill decrease of $419.37. The averaged assessed home will see a tax bill of $7,025.
“Because the town has been evaluated at a higher figure every year, this is the third year in a row that the school portion – school tax impact – actually has a decrease,” said Business Administrator/Board Secretary Diane Quigley, who led the budget presentation.
According to Superintendent/Principal Stacie Poelstra, “this board has been very fiscally responsible for a good number of years, and that has put us in a very good position as a district.”
The superintendent noted that the budget meets the BOE goals, maintains current educational programs, supports extracurricular, academic and athletic programs, meets state mandates and is at the 2% cap.
“I think the district has been really fiscally responsible and has thought long term along the way, and that’s what, as certain things fluctuate and go up and down, it has been that past management of the budget that allows us to continue to be in a very good position,” she said. “My praise to the board for many years of setting us up for success.”
