POINT PLEASANT — A public hearing on the Point Pleasant Borough school district’s proposed budget for the 2025-2026 school year was held during the Monday, April 28, board of education meeting at Ocean Road School.
The district’s total preliminary general fund budget is proposed at $53,702,684, which has been submitted to the county superintendent and is approved.
The proposed increase would add a total of $.06579 per $100 of home value to the current tax levy. The estimated average school tax increase would be approximately $264 on the average assessed home of roughly $400,000.
The district presented this information via a video detailing all the aspects of the budget. This video can be found on the district’s website at pointpleasant.k12.nj.us and navigating to the “Board of Education” tab and clicking on the drop down “District Budget.”
Prior to the video, Business Administrator Christina Fessler said, “This budget season has been a little bit of a rollercoaster. Our tentative budget that was approved for submission to the county we had at our March 17 meeting included a 2% tax cap as well as the healthcare waiver adjustment. Those were the tentative figures that were advertised…for this budget meeting.”
She said, “Subsequent to the county’s approval, the state allowed the board some flexibility to apply to the state to increase our taxes and expenditures up to our below adequacy spending.”
Highlighted in the presentation, Point Pleasant’s below adequacy spending is just under $5.5 million.
“The district used discretion to apply for an additional $867,026 in expenditures. At 3 p.m. this afternoon, we received our approval for the portion of that application,” Fessler said.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing.
The board will vote on the budget on Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at Ocean Road Elementary School, 1210 Benedict St.
