MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP — A Brick Township resident, William C. Swiderski, 24, died on Saturday, April 19 after his motorcycle crashed and he was ejected over 140 feet, according to a press release from the Manchester Township Police Department. Swiderski was a Marine veteran and standout lacrosse player at Brick Township High School.
On Saturday, at approximately 3:22 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 37 and Colonial Drive for the report of an accident involving a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers observed a red 2007 Honda CBR motorcycle engulfed in flames in the intersection and a white 2020 Honda Accord with extensive driver-side damage on the eastbound side of the road.
The investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling west on Route 37, when it entered the intersection of Route 37 and Colonial Drive, police said. The motorcycle then collided with the Accord, which was travelling south on Colonial Drive in the intersection, causing it to travel off the roadway, police said.
Upon impact, the motorcycle burst into flames and the motorcyclist was ejected over 140 feet from the vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of Route 37.
The motorcycle was being operated by Swiderski, who was then transported via ambulance to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Accord was being operated by 20-year-old Job Martinez del Villar of Manchester, who was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation and roadway cleanup.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Manchester Emergency Medical Services, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Lakehurst Borough Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, New Jersey State Police and NJ Department of Transportation.
The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Jesse Hoydis of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
