BRICK TOWNSHIP — The Arc, Ocean County Chapter will host the 23rd annual Step Up for The Arc Walk and 5K Race on Saturday, May 17, at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, home of the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, to benefit programs and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Step Up for The Arc is an inclusive community event to raise awareness and acceptance for people with disabilities.
The 5K race will begin at 8 a.m., with check-in opening at 7 a.m., timed by Split Second Racing. There is a $30 registration fee to participate in the 5K.
The Walk and Family Fun Day will kick off at 10 a.m. and include carnival games, arts and crafts, live performances, refreshments, a one-mile walk and an after-party lunch catered by Jersey Mike’s Subs.
This event is free to attend and online registration is encouraged. To register for the Step Up for The Arc Walk and 5K Race visit arcocean.org.
Development Coordinator of The Arc, Ocean County Chapter Jasmine Wilker said, “We’re so excited — we’re already counting down the days. This is our biggest fundraiser, not just in terms of money (our goal is $85,000 this year) but also attendance — we usually see around 600 people from our programs and the community show up.”
Wilker said, “It’s such a special day where we celebrate individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, especially those in our programs who are fundraising for their own wish list items. It’s fun, it’s inclusive and it’s all about community and raising awareness.”
