POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Five people were injured in a pair of collisions at the intersection of Route 35 North and New Jersey Avenue on the evening of Monday, March 24.
At approximately 6:11 a.m. on March 24, a Honda CRV (designated as V1 or vehicle 1), was being driven east on New Jersey Avenue by Gurpreet Singh, 28, of Farmingdale, when it was struck by a Ford Bronco, (V2 or vehicle 2), driven north on Route 35 by Elliott Correia of Point Pleasant, according to a crash investigation report from the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department obtained by The Ocean Star.
“V1 stated they were traveling east on New Jersey Avenue and when they entered the (Route 35) roadway they were struck on the passenger side by V2,” the police report says. “V2 stated they were traveling north on (Route 35) when V1 did not stop at the stop sign and they struck them with their front end of the vehicle.”
The two vehicles then both crashed into a third vehicle, also a Honda CRV (V3), driven by Lauren Ewing of Point Pleasant Beach, which was stopped facing west on New Jersey Avenue.
“V3 stated (they) were stopped on New Jersey Avenue waiting to enter the roadway when they were struck in the front of their vehicle by V1 and V2,” police said.
Correia, Ewing and three passengers from V2 and V3 were taken to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township for treatment.
“All occupants of vehicles 2 and 3 were transported to Brick Hospital by Point Pleasant Beach First Aid. (The) driver of V2 complained of right wrist pain, passenger of V2 complained of chest pain, driver of V3 complained of left hand, neck and back pain and both passengers of V3 complained of chest pains and burning feeling,” the report said.
Singh was not given an alcohol or drug test, and was charged with failure to observe, stop or yield to right-of-way signs, which carries a fine of at least $85 and two points assigned to the driver’s license, police said. According to police, all three cars were towed from the scene.
