MANASQUAN — Sunnyside Manor recently hosted a free screening at the Algonquin Arts Theatre of “Taking Care,” a 38-minute documentary following the journey of acclaimed filmmakers Seth Rogan and Lauren Miller Rogan as they navigate the complexities and heartbreak of Lauren’s mother’s advancing Alzheimer’s disease.
“‘Taking Care’ is a powerful film that holds such a deep message and reminder that we can all make a difference, big or small, in an effort to care for families and individuals living with Alzheimer’s,” said MaryEllen Keane, the owner and operator of Sunnyside Manor,
an assisted living facility located in Wall Township.
“I applaud the filmmakers who shined a light on what individuals go through with this disease, the bond and relationships that grow between family members and friends, and the struggles and realities faced by millions of families and caregivers around the country. It was an inspiring night with meaningful conversation that left us with a feeling of community,” she said.
Following the screening, attendees were invited to stay for a discussion and question-and-answer session with Amy E. Matthews, a dementia consultant who has worked exclusively in the field of Alzheimer’s and related dementia disorders for the past 30 years. The important talk led to providing local resources available to families, risk factors of Alzheimer’s, the importance of brain health, social stimulation and more.
Attendees also visited the tables of organizations in the community such as Visiting Angels in Wall, Town Square Adult Day Care, Anywhere Audiology, Elder Life Management and HomeWell Care Services, where they received information and resources in support of Alzheimer’s disease.
