BAY HEAD — Bay Head Chapel is set to reopen its doors with a musical debut this weekend.
Bay Head Chapel, 442 Main Ave., will host a concert series to celebrate reopening after taking the winter off. Stephanie O’Donnell, trustee of the Bay Head Chapel, told The Ocean Star, “We aim to bring some music to the community and some social gatherings, along with introducing and bringing life to the chapel.”
On Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m., residents can visit the chapel and listen to Julia Radosz, an internationally acclaimed soprano, perform operatic and Broadway songs at the chapel. She will be joined by tenor Edgar Jaramillo and pianist Christopher Cooley.
Admission is $25 at the door and includes the show itself along with a meet-and-greet afterwards with the performers. Doug Schwarz, trustee of the Bay Head Chapel, said these costs are only to pay the performers.
Radosz lives in Slovakia with her husband, who is currently a conductor. She is coming stateside to audition at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
“She agreed to come down and perform a concert and we are very lucky to have her come,” said O’Donnell.
O’Donnell explained that years ago, she played for an opera company in Italy, which helped her build these connections.
“It was so much fun and I met a lot of singers, and Julia knows one of the singers. So I contacted one of the singers, who couldn’t perform, but he passed me along to Julia, who sounded very excited about coming to the Bay Head Chapel and getting to know the town,” O’Donnell said.
Schwarz said, “We are trying to create more of an awareness that the Bay Head Chapel is there…it is 137-years-old and is just an amazing building. We were talking about doing something and Stephanie has the contacts, we have the building, this is a great way to send some additional culture for the year-round crowd.”
