BRICK TOWNSHIP — A Brick Children’s Community Theatre (BCCT) alumnus returns to perform for the grand opening gala as the singer known as Remember Jones will hit the stage with “Jones Sings Jones” on Friday, March 21, at 7 p.m.
BCCT is a community theater founded in 1992 to cultivate a love of theater in children from Ocean and Monmouth counties. The BCCT’s new home, the Mantoloking Road Playhouse, is located at 266 Mantoloking Road in Brick.
Kendra Zarrilli has run BCCT for 12 years and is owner of the Mantoloking Road Playhouse with her husband, Anthony. She said, “We’ve waited for this for so long, our director hit the nail on the head, she sent something out to the kids before ‘Frozen’ and said, ‘This is a big day, we’ve been waiting for our own theatre since before any of you were born.’ You’re talking 20-plus years for something that was a pipe dream for BCCT.”
The gala requests cocktail attire and will feature a champagne toast, hors d’oeuvres, dessert after the show and a cash bar.
Remember Jones will perform many Tom Jones classics including “It’s Not Unusual,” “Delilah” and “What’s New Pussycat,” as well as covers of songs by The Beatles, Ray Charles and more, with a soulful rock rhythm section backed by 13 horns.
On the grand opening gala and Remember Jones performing, Zarrilli said, “We are so excited. They are amazing. Anthony D’Amato, a.k.a Remember Jones, is a BCCT alumnus. He grew up here. So when he heard we were opening up a theatre and we were going to have a home he was so excited and reached out to me.”
“We are super excited to have a show like that in our space and it’s something totally different from what BCCT offers. We are truly lucky and grateful that he is coming to do his show for us,” said Zarrilli.
BCCT is an almost entirely volunteer-run organization with the exception of the director and other professionals such as set designers and technical directors.
