POINT PLEASANT — The mayor and council honored Police Chief Adam Picca with a proclamation, as he will be retiring at the end of the month.
The chief will be leaving the department on April 1, after two and half years of serving as the chief of police and 26 years of service to the Point Pleasant police.
“Tonight, I have the honor to recognize one of the best chiefs this town has ever had,” said Mayor Robert Sabosik. “He is unbelievable for the amount of high dedication he put into the job. His record is something I don’t think anybody else will achieve. He is a friend, I have known him for a long time, a great communicator and a great leader for his department.”
Mayor Sabosik then welcomed the chief, as the courtroom was filled with community members and fellow officers to give the chief a standing ovation for his years of service to Point Pleasant Borough.
Chief Picca, who was not expecting to be honored at this meeting, said a few words to the council, the public and his fellow officers.
“I don’t have anything prepared, so I guess I’ll shoot from the hip, my good one at least,” he jokingly said, before continuing, “I want to thank everyone here. My officers, my support staff, our communication officers, my clerical staff, crossing guards, our jobs have definitely changed over the years. I can’t thank you enough for the effort you put in each and every day in the service of our community and promoting public safety, which is our mission statement.”
He further said, “I really appreciate your support as chief. As chief, I am not the reason we are successful, you are,” as he spoke to his officers. “Working together to better this department, at least I know we’ve done good for this town.”
He wished all his fellow officers the best in their careers, and thanked all the borough volunteers who help make the police department’s job easier.
“Together, we make this town a great place to live and raise a family,” he said.
