POINT PLEASANT — This March, the borough honors senior nutrition programs, such as Meals on Wheels.
At the council meeting on Feb. 24, the mayor and council proclaimed March to be Senior Nutrition Month, honoring programs such as Meals on Wheels for taking care of seniors throughout Ocean County and keeping them healthy and fed.
During the proclamation, Mayor Robert Sabosik said, “President Nixon in 1972 signed into law…a national nutrition program for individuals 60 years and older. Meals on Wheels of Ocean County provide meals both home delivered and to community cafes to seniors throughout Ocean County.”
He said, “Meals on Wheels helps seniors maintain their health and independence, helping to prevent unnecessary falls and hospitalizations. Therefore, I, Robert A. Sabosik, mayor of Point Pleasant Borough, proclaims March 2025 to be a month celebrating senior nutrition programs and urges every community member to take this month in honor of senior nutrients programs, the individuals they serve and all who care for them.”
After his proclamation, the mayor invited Heather deJong, community relations specialist for Meals on Wheels and a Brick councilwoman, up to accept the proclamation.
She said, “Meals on Wheels always talks about senior nutrition which is so important for homebound and food-insecure seniors. Here, at Meals on Wheels in Ocean County, we serve 1,000 meals every single day, five days a week. We are more than just a meal, we are also that socialization, that friendly smile from our drivers and a wellness and safety check.”
