BRICK TOWNSHIP — The Brick Memorial Boutique provided gently used prom, ball, homecoming and formal dresses for a discount at its second annual “gently used dress sale” held Feb. 27.
The dress sale benefits the Brick Memorial High School Class of 2025, and the sales exceeded the expectations of class advisors Rebecca Decker and Bridget Petrulla.
Decker said, “We sold around 100 dresses, both formal and informal, to people in our community. We more than doubled our profits from last year.”
The class advisors focused on getting the word out about the event this year, and it paid off.
The boutique received donations from the community, but also drew a bigger crowd, which was the goal of the advisors. This year the sale raised over $1,000 for the Class of 2025.
“We wanted to get prom dresses into as many hands as possible,” said Decker.
The event featured raffles that helped to raise funds as well, according to the advisors. The raffle gifts were donated from local businesses including Hand and Stone, Meemom’s, Crumbl cookie, Sunshine Daydream, Baron’s Bagels, Jersey Mike’s Subs and All in Maintenance Services. The raffle also included Brick beach badges.
The advisors thanked the community businesses for being generous with their donations.
Petrulla said, “I think it is important to give the students the opportunity to purchase dresses at an event like this because it allows them to feel as if they are still out shopping, so to speak. There is still choice and options for them. They can come with their parents or with friends and still have that experience. I think they truly enjoyed it.”
“Not to mention, paying for the dress gives them a shopping experience and makes them feel like they have ownership over what they are choosing,” said Decker.
Decker and Petrulla said, “We saw young girls walking around with the dads, groups of girls trying on and hyping each other up and girls shopping with their moms. It was honestly so heartwarming. And these girls were walking away with prom dresses in beautiful condition for $10.”
The advisors said their favorite part of the event was watching their girls of the Class of 2025 come together and work hard for a cause that benefited the community in such a fun and special way.
