BRIELLE — The Brielle Library Scholarship Committee selected Joshua Jones as its 2024 Jean Wetzel Memorial Scholarship recipient.
According to the library, the scholarship is for $1,000 and Brielle Library Trustees Kristen Nolan and Madeline Krajewski presented the scholarship to Jones.
Jones is a freshman at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing.
Brielle Public Library Director Maribeth Pelly said that Jones was chosen for his reflection essay. She said, “His essay was about the children’s book, NO DAVID!, (which) portrayed an inspiring message that stood out from the other submissions.”
According to the library, the 2024 selection was challenging because there were so many excellent submissions. With the help of BookTowne, they were able to award a $50 gift certificate to each of the runners ups.
The Brielle Library has been distributing the scholarship since 2007. Pelly said, “We are grateful that the family of Jean Wetzel gifted funds specifically for helping young adults pursue their education whether it be trade school or college.”
According to the library, in 2024, the library received a gift of stock shares to specifically fund the Jean Wetzel Scholarship.
According to the library, as guardians of the scholarship funds, the Board of Trustees, is grateful to be able to continue to award this scholarship for many years to come.
