BELMAR — Mayor Gerald Buccafusco, at the council’s Feb. 25 meeting, announced that the borough will now provide free season beach badges for the 2025 season to military veterans.
“In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude to those who have served our country, the Borough of Belmar is proud to announce that military veterans may now receive a free season beach badge for the 2025 summer season,” a press release states. “This new initiative makes it easier for veterans to access Belmar’s beautiful beachfront so they can enjoy the sand and surf without the need to present military ID at the ticket sales booth.”
Previously at Belmar beaches, veterans were required to show their military identification at the beachfront in order to receive complimentary daily access. With this new program, the release states, veterans will be issued a free beach badge to use for the entire season, “simplifying the process and providing a more convenient and accessible way to enjoy all that Belmar’s beach has to offer.”
“I am excited to roll out this new initiative that honors our local veterans and enhances their experience when visiting our town,” stated Mayor Buccafusco. “Offering a free beach badge for the entire season is a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices they have made, and I believe this change will make it even easier for them to enjoy everything our vibrant community has to offer.”
The free beach badges for veterans are available for pickup at Belmar Borough Hall, 601 Main St. Veterans will be asked to provide proof of service, such as a military discharge or DD214, when registering for their badge.
