SPRING LAKE — Fifth grade teacher Jenna Grannick has been awarded Governor’s Educator of the Year for the 2024 to 2025 school year, and student Emma Schrader was recognized as the eighth-grade Student Achiever. Surrounded by their families and fellow school community members, both were acknowledged at the Spring Lake Board of Education’s meeting held last Thursday evening.
“I am pleased to present Jenna Grannick as the candidate for Educator of the Year. Ms. Grannick is an exemplary educator, whose professionalism, dedication and caring nature extend well beyond the classroom,” said H.W. Mountz Principal Daniel Layton.
Grannick was awarded the recognition through the statewide Governor’s Educator of the Year (GEOY). According to the New Jersey School Board Association, the program promotes a culture that recognizes excellence, creates a sense of pride and brings public attention to the work of outstanding educators.
“Her teaching style is dynamic, interactive and consistently incorporates best practices and differentiation to ensure all students’ needs are met,” Layton said.
Furthermore, Grannick’s colleagues particularly recognized her for her enthusiasm in fostering student achievement and growth through her lessons as an Instructional Support staff member and for supplemental support during mathematics instruction.
Aside from her contributions inside the classroom, in alignment with the state framework in which teachers are evaluated, Grannick’s efforts “exemplify a deepened commitment to the broader school community,” serving as a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) Coordinator, facilitated the school’s annual spelling bee and participated in various schoolwide initiatives including SEL (Social and Emotional Learning), Character Counts Committees and Sunshine Committee, according to Layton.
Educators can be nominated for the award by administrators, staff, students, parents and community members, and the award recipients receive an awards certificate from their respective County Office of Education.
