POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant Beach is holding its annual Martin Luther King In-Service Day on Jan. 20, when the club seeks to “support as many organizations as possible” through outreach and donation collection.
“Come, bring your family and friends and join us as we provide help to those in need,” the club stated in a press release.
The In-Service Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 20, at the Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant clubhouse, located at 513 St. Louis Ave. The club requests that all donations be dropped off at the clubhouse by 2 p.m.
For St. Gregory’s Pantry, a food pantry based at Point Pleasant Beach’s St. Mary’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, the club is collecting non-perishable goods, including: unexpired canned goods, coffee, tea, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, cereal, snacks, juices, cleaning products, shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Additionally, it will also accept donations of gently used footwear for Nashville nonprofit Soles4Souls.
The volunteers will also be accepting “linens for the animal shelters, gently used winter clothing and items for the homeless, such as coats, vests, hats, gloves, scarfs, socks, blankets and boots,” according to the release.
The Woman’s Club also told The Ocean Star about one of the projects it has more recently undertaken in donating to local food charity Panthers, Let’s Eat.
“One of our newest projects is Panthers, Let’s Eat, an organization that is helping feed over 200 Point Pleasant families,” said the club. “Their wish list is for kid-friendly pantry items such as: Pop Tarts, granola/fruit bars, peanut butter, jelly, cereal boxes, pancake mix, oatmeal, syrup, ketchup, bags of rice and beans, pasta, pasta sauce, Knorr noodle sides, applesauce cups or pouches, Kraft or Annie’s macaroni and cheese, Kraft Easy Mac microwave cups, chips, crackers, cookies, individually wrapped snacks and family-type toiletries. With your support and generosity, these items will always be available and on hand for any family experiencing food insecurities.”
Canned foods will not be accepted for donation to Panthers, Let’s Eat.
