SPRING LAKE — The Spring Lake Board of Education swore in incumbent Noelle Giblin and newcomer Daniel Jude Maxwell, in addition to tapping two board members to serve as president and vice president during its Jan. 6 reorganization meeting.
Giblin was reelected for a third term this past Election Day with a total of 942 votes, and newcomer Daniel Jude Maxwell will serve his first term on the board after receiving 1,002 votes.
Surrounded by family and fellow community members, the two were administered their oaths of office Monday night.
Giblin previously told The Coast Star that one of her main priorities is to re-establish the community committee that has a focus on H.W. Mountz’s future, and she believes the role of the board in evaluating the needs of stakeholders and providing recommendations is crucial.
Board officers were also up for nomination, and Giblin and Michael Moran assumed the roles of president and vice president, respectively. Giblin most recently served as board president
Maxwell said he will support transparency in financial reporting and oversight of the school budget, with a particular focus on per-pupil cost. He said he will work to streamline administration costs, making sure that the school’s resources are put directly into enhancing learning outcomes for students.
Board committee and liaison assignments were also made during the meeting.
Moran will chair the buildings and grounds committee and David Rowe will serve as second member, Carla Martin will chair the curriculum committee and Maxwell will be second member, Moran will chair the finance committee and Giblin will be second member, Martin will chair personnel committee and Giblin will serve as second member, and Rowe will chair the policy committee and Maxwell will be second member.
For the ad-hoc committee of stakeholders – a recently reinstated committee group consisting of administration, board members, community members and parents working on the school’s future plans – Giblin will be chair, and Maxwell as second member.
Maxwell will be liaison to the H.W. Mountz Parent Teacher Association and Martin will be liaison to the H.W. Mountz Boosters.
