BELMAR — Councilwoman Jodi Kinney was sworn into position during the council’s annual reorganization meeting, held Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Incumbent Kinney, a Republican, was elected to fulfill a new three-year term in the November election. She defeated Democratic newcomer Johanna Roper-Robinson with 1,788 votes to Roper-Robinson’s 1,445 in unofficial tallies on Election Day. Four votes were cast as write-ins.
Joined by her family in front of the dais, Kinney was administered the oath of office by Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. Kinney’s swearing in was met with applause from the audience.
“On behalf of Sheriff (Shaun) Golden and myself, it’s an honor to be here to support Jodi and, of course, always, the rest of the town, as we’re looking forward to continuing working (together) again, fighting the Verizon fight with you guys, continuing it,” Arnone said. “So it’s good to have you back here, sitting here, joining the fight with us.”
Following the oath of office, the borough council unanimously nominated and appointed Councilwoman Maria Rondinaro as council president. The nomination was made by previous council president Mark Levis and seconded by Councilwoman Caitlin Donovan.
