BRIELLE — Superintendent Stacie Poelstra and the members of the Brielle Board of Education honored outgoing board member Joseph Milancewich for nine years on the board.
Board President Kurt Becker said, “We have a very important presentation this evening for Mr. Milancewich’s ninth and final year, which is a huge deal, believe it or not, and we are going to recognize his service.”
Superintendent Poelstra said that Milancewich has been a member of the Brielle Board of Education for nine years, beginning his tenure in 2016. In his time on the board, he has served on a variety of committees.
“Since I began in Brielle last year, I’ve appreciated working with him on the human relations committee. Particularly on the negotiations committee to settle the BEA (Brielle Education Association) contract last year,” said Poelstra.
“Joe’s institutional memory, knowledge and commitment to positive collaboration resulted in a successful settlement of the contract. Joe’s role as the representative to Manasquan has also been so valuable in representing Brielle’s interests and keeping us apprised of our student’s high school experiences,” said Poelstra.
Poelstra said that Milancewich has gone above and beyond in his service to the Brielle community.
“I’m not sure how he finds the time for all that he does in Brielle, but I know that our community has benefited from his service in so many ways. We will miss your experience, commitment and your dedication to the Brielle Elementary School and we wish you all the best as you retire from your position on the board of education,” said Poelstra.
Milancewich received a standing ovation and a round of applause from the board and members of the public at the meeting.
Milancewich said, “We’ve done a lot in my nine years. When I came on, the teachers had been negotiating for approximately two and a half years and were out of a contract. We had windows in the building that were 50 or 60 years old, so we replaced them.”
Milancewich said bringing Superintendent Poelstra on board was a huge success and he thanked his fellow board members.
