WALL TOWNSHIP— When visiting a 25-acre farm during the holiday season, most people would run from the task of planning lighting displays for the entire property. However, 16-year-old Shane Heinl of Allaire Community Farm is always up for the job.
Heinl, a resident of Wall and a student at Wall Township High School, is credited with planning and hanging up the holiday lighting displays throughout the farm’s acreage at the ripe age of 16. After learning about lighting through the farm and working with farm co-owner Sean Burney, Heinl’s lighting allows thousands of people to walk through the illuminated farm at night each holiday season, and view the animals and holiday displays at the Old-Fashioned Christmas event that is currently running through Dec. 29.
Heinl spoke to The Coast Star about how he got started on the farm, and what his role entails.
“I started here about five years ago as a volunteer,” Heinl said. “It all started by volunteering, then it just snowballed and I started to work with Sean Burney. It slowly progressed from there.”
