SPRING LAKE — Spring Lake Board of Education, at its Monday, Dec. 16, meeting, appointed David Hallman to serve as a part-time interim assistant principal starting Jan. 1 through June 30.
Hallman has experience in education administration, having served as superintendent of Belmar School District principal for approximately nine years before retiring in 2021. Subsequently, he began a private consulting company.
Hallman will assume his new role for the full day on Thursdays, and will fulfill other hours if needed. Superintendent Stephen LaValva said it could often be just a Thursday, and other weeks may be more, but it will never exceed 10 hours per week.
“This will allow us to have the full replacement for Mrs. Levine’s (Natalie Levine, Assistant Principal/Supervisor of Student Services) position, not at a cost that is higher than her budgeted allotment, in fact, it’s a good amount lower than her original allotment, so there will be some savings there as well,” said LaValva.
Hallman will be compensated at a rate of $80 per hour, according to the motion posted on the meeting agenda.
“We have two professionals who have had longstanding careers in education joining us,” said LaValva.
The board, at its Nov. 25 meeting, approved an interim director of student services to fill the gap period until a decision is made on how to proceed toward filling the position full-time. Now, both positions within the job title have been filled with interims.
