MANASQUAN — Looking to learn more about politics and government at the local level? Manasquan is launching a new program offering high schoolers in the borough a unique opportunity to get involved in their town.
My Government Experience (MyGovExp), an initiative spearheaded by Councilman Jay Bryant and the members of the borough council, is a program focused on giving young people the chance to partake in hands-on experience at the local government level.
Councilman Bryant told The Coast Star, “I wanted to start this program to give students an opportunity to get a firsthand understanding of civics through partnering with their local government. The goal of the program is to encourage the next generation of community leaders and volunteers.”
The program aims to develop leadership and civic skills, while preparing students for future career and educational opportunities. Those selected to participate in the program will work directly with various departments within the borough including the environmental commission, Recreation, Tourism and more.
Student responsibilities include attending meetings, recording minutes and assisting in special projects across the borough, with a goal of providing participants with insight into professional work environments and various career paths within government and public service.
“The MyGovExp offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in local government operations and develop career skills through real-world involvement. The program is designed to build leadership and civic engagement and prepare students for future careers and educational opportunities,” Councilman Bryant said.
The program is opened to high school students from Manasquan with an interest in public service, positions are unpaid and spots are limited.
While applications opened on Oct. 16, the window remains open to submissions until Nov. 4, interested applicants can apply at the Manasquan borough website, manasquan-nj.gov, under the mayor and council page
