POINT PLEASANT — A DeSales University Student and Point Pleasant resident has been making strides living her dream overseeing and crafting electrical work on many plays and musicals.
Elisa Moreland, senior at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, is a design and technology major and has been doing a multitude of hands-on work throughout her years at the college, especially with their Act 1 program, which is their performing arts department.
“I have gotten the chance to be in countless leadership positions and one of them was assistant head electrician for ‘The Servant of Two Masters’ these past few weeks,” said Moreland.
For this show, Moreland worked directly under the head electrician, who is a fellow student at DeSales. Moreland said, “It was really fun to work with her just as students because we got free reign to do a job and get supervision from our professors that really take charge and put this show on its feet.”
In her position, Moreland worked to make sure all the lighting was up and running, delegating tasks making sure all the circuits are wired properly all in preparation for the show.
Moreland got involved with this through a course she is required to take each semester, called practicum.
“We have to be involved in the show in some way. You can sign up for whatever you choose. I personally love leadership so I try to stay on leadership roles as much as I can,” said Moreland. “For this past semester, I chose to be in the lighting world.”
During the first show she was ever a part of, “The Little Shop of Horrors,” she was head electrician, and then for the second show, was the assistant head electrician. SHe got these roles by being chosen by her professors and staff she works alongside and is in class with.
Her ultimate goal is to go into the concert and live production industry. She said, “I’m looking to get out of theater and do more concerts. I love lighting. I love programming to music and I also love the management side of it, production management, project management. The goal for me would be to be working at a big production company where we build a concert or production in house and send it out on tour.”
