POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Borough School District announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded state funding to start preschool classes.
“We are pleased to announce that the Point Pleasant Borough School District has been awarded state funding to open three preschool classrooms at Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School,” according to a press release issued by the district.
The preschool will start on Jan. 2, 2025 and will be a full, six-hour day, five days a week adhering to the rest of the school district’s calendar.
“We are very happy to have received Preschool Education Aid from the New Jersey Department of Education, which will enable us to open three preschool classrooms this school year and continue to build the program in coming years,” Director of Curriculum and Instruction Christine McCoid stated. “Our preschool program will be designed to foster creativity, curiosity and a love of learning and provide a strong foundation to set children on a path for academic success.”
This funding will cover the entire cost of the program. McCoid previously told The Ocean Star that the preschool program would be heavily reliant on the Preschool Expansion Aid (PEA) state aid. The funding is not a one-time grant; the state would make an annual payment to the school system.
Enrollment has been offered on a first-come, first-served basis from the enrollment requests received on July 13. Spots have already been filled for the upcoming semester, as it was heavily publicized on the district website. Parents, guardians and enrolled students will be invited to attend an orientation session in the coming months.
The district anticipates opening the preschool enrollment request form for the 2025-2026 school year in June 2025 and will accept enrollment requests at that time for children who will be age 3 or 4 by Oct. 1, 2025.
