SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Spring Lake Heights Elementary School hosted an all-day fundraising event for breast cancer relief Tuesday, spreading awareness and raising funds for nonprofit respite home Mary’s Place by the Sea.
The event was created by the school’s student council, which had collected donations in the past, but wanted to do more for the cause. Student council supervisors from the school, Kimberly Grigoli and Jillian Kaczorowski, touched on what they’ve changed to make a bigger impact.
“For the past few years, we’ve supported Mary’s Place by the Sea with a special day where staff and students wear pink and bring in donations. Two years ago, the student council wanted to make a bigger impact and created a larger event. The students came up with the name ‘Paint Heights Pink,’ designed posters and helped plan how to decorate the school for the day. Rather than just wearing pink, we encourage students to go all out to show their support for this meaningful cause,” Grigoli said.
MARY’S PLACE BY THE SEA
Mary’s Place By The Sea is a nonprofit respite home in Ocean Grove, for women undergoing cancer treatment. The home strives to create a serene environment for women dealing with the stress of being treated, by offering holistic services like yoga, meditation, nutrition education and oncology massage, all at no cost. Grigoli added that the mental support provided is a huge benefit of the home’s initiative.
