BELMAR — Roofing repairs at Belmar Elementary School (BES) from this past summer are quickly nearing completion, as discussed by the Belmar Board of Education (BOE) at its Aug. 29 meeting.
Superintendent Jimmy Alvarez announced that the roofing project is “getting completed shortly, it looks great…they’re pretty close to done and we believe they’re going to be done by Tuesday (before school starts Wednesday). If anything, there’ll be some few molding pieces that will need to be completed, but it looks really great.”
Alvarez confirmed for The Coast Star Wednesday morning that the roof project will be completed by the end of next week. “Flashing, downspouts and finishing work is all that is left,” he said.
“You know something looks right when it looks like it always belonged there and when you look at the roof, it looks like it always fit,” Alvarez said at the meeting. “We’re really excited about that. Me and (Board Administrator Michael) Bardsley want to thank (school director of facilities Ryan) Lasky for keeping on it and making those phone calls, and Mr. Bardsley as well, to make sure we’re on track to get back here at the right time and that our building is cared for.”
He also said that the property’s plants “are making their way back” and that they would be replaced if they didn’t grow back. “We still have that promise that if a couple of them are still looking shabby, they’ll replace them.”
Administrator Bardsley noted that during the roofing’s construction, the fence to the school’s playground on the 11th Avenue side, “that got hit by the crane when they were bringing in the roof, so it’s supposed to be repaired this weekend, hopefully, before school starts.”
Alvarez confirmed Wednesday that the fence was successfully replaced “and is working better than ever.”
