BELMAR — The annual Belmar San Gennaro Festival will return for this year’s one-day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Special Events Coordinator John Walsh said that he’s working on the final layout of the festival, which “might look a little bit different” from last year.
“We’re not positive yet, but I think we’re trying to move it to Main Street over by (Pyanoe) Plaza, instead of in the parking lot,” he said. “That’s not the definite (plan) yet, but that’s what we’re concepting a little bit, because we have a little extra participation this year.”
The celebration honoring the Italian-American community will start that morning at St. Rose Catholic Church with a special Mass hosted in Italian at 10 a.m., when the Belmar Businessman, Businesswoman, Son and Daughter of the San Gennaro Festival will be sashed and honored.
This year’s honorees will include: Businessman Mark Anthony “MA” Spagnuolo, of Hoagitos; Businesswoman Roberta Palendrano, of Robins Nest; Belmar Public Library aide David Cupoli as Belmar Son; and Councilwoman Maria Rondinaro as Belmar Daughter.
Following the Mass, there will be a procession from the church to the plaza, at approximately 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. arrival, where the festival’s craft vendors, food and entertainment will be featured until 6 p.m.
“We’re going to try to capitalize on what we did last year and maybe grow, but you can expect the fun from last year to return,” Walsh said.
