SEA GIRT — The Sea Girt council and meeting attendees heard from Monmouth County Commissioner Thomas Arnone and County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon on plans to celebrate and observe America’s semiquincentennial in 2026, with one of the borough’s own contributing to the fun.
“Christine and I are the co-chairs for this (committee) and it’s something that both of us have passions about and we’re really putting in a lot of time and effort, but none of it is going to come to fruition unless we have the council’s support and just a big team player on it all and that’s our ultimate goal,” said County Commissioner Arnone.
“For those of us who are old enough to remember the bicentennial, that was a really special time in our history and now we have another amazing, special time coming as we get ready to celebrate the 250th birthday,” said Hanlon.
The county’s celebrations are in conjunction with the national U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, America250, who has a goal of “inspiring Americans to participate in the anniversary and to create the largest and most inclusive observance in the country’s history.”
The state has established its semiquincentennial framework already, known as RevNJ, serving as the official organization overseeing the state’s planning.
The celebration honors Monmouth County’s dedication to the fight for American independence, as the Battle of Monmouth played a pivotal role being the longest and biggest one-day battle of the American Revolution.
During the celebration, the county’s goal is to remember the rich history, make memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike, improve economic development, tourism, generate awareness and excitement and collaborate with all facets of the community.
