SEA GIRT — Sea Girt Elementary School has invited school and community members to honor the late Frank A. Mazzitelle, former teacher and coach, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium which is to be named in his honor.
Mr. Mazzitelle, who died in 2022 at the age of 81, gave decades of service to the students as Sea Girt Elementary School’s very first physical education teacher.
He also coached baseball, basketball and soccer for 33 years before his retirement in 2003. During his time as a coach, the school won nearly 40 sports championships.
Board President Todd Leonhardt, who attended the elementary school and had Mr. Mazzitelle as a teacher, said, “He was a great coach. He really loved the children. As far as a teacher, it was all about discipline and fundamentals, whether it was bowling or archery or shooting a basketball. Genuinely, he had a great attitude caring for the kids, caring for all the students.”
