SPRING LAKE — Boy Scouts of America Troop 31 of Spring Lake will be collecting food donations to send to several charities and food pantries in Asbury Park.
Members of the public who want to contribute can drop off donations of non-perishable food on Saturday, Nov. 18 between 9 a.m. and noon at Spring Lake Fire Company No. 1, located 1007 Fifth Ave.
Genevieve Clifton, one of the co-chairs of the annual food drive, said that the troop prefers donations of non-perishable food but also hopes to receive frozen turkeys or hams for families in need for Thanksgiving. Supplies like toothpaste will also be accepted.
The day of the collection, members of the troop as well as parents will be out in force. Some will be at the firehouse collecting the donations, while others will be driving the donations to both The Mercy Center and The Center in Asbury Park. Some members of the troop, said Ms. Clifton, will even be at The Center helping to organize donations and stock shelves.
