BRICK TOWNSHIP — Incumbent Alison Kennedy and newcomer Mike Mesmer have won a contested race for two three-year terms available on the Brick Board of Education.
Trailing were incumbent Michael Blandina and newcomer Gregory Cohen.
Incumbent Alison Kennedy received 8,323 votes in unofficial tallies. She said, “I’m pretty excited that I was able to stay true to myself and keep politics out of it and I did it with the help of my friends and my supporters in Brick. I’m super excited to continue the good work that we started.”
Newcomer Mr. Mesmer received 6,865 votes. He said, “I am extremely excited to be able to bring a new perspective and positive attitude to the board. This was an important election for the Brick School District. As a lifelong resident of Brick, I am looking forward to giving back to the community so important to me, and I plan to fight for our parental rights and our students’ well-being in every decision I make.”
Incumbent Mr. Blandina received 6,308 votes. He said “I first would like to congratulate the two winners. It was a tough race. I believe we did everything we needed to do… I wish the winners true success in doing what’s right for the children, the taxpayers and the teachers in our schools. I’m not going anywhere. I’ve been involved with Brick Township for more than 40 years and I will continue to do that. I also would like to thank the more than 6,000 residents who supported me in this campaign.”
Newcomer Mr. Cohen received 5,381 votes. He said he was happy to see that Mr. Mesmer won and believes he will be a strong voice on the board trying to bring family values, parental rights and transparency.
