POINT PLEASANT — Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew Nobbs, a native of Point Pleasant, serves aboard a U.S. Navy warship operating out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Petty Officer Nobbs graduated in 2009 from Point Pleasant Boro High School.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Point Pleasant, according to Petty Officer Nobbs.
“My hometown taught me how to be a leader,” said Petty Officer Nobbs. “In high school, I was captain of the wrestling team. I feel like a lot of those leadership qualities naturally translated to the Navy.”
Petty Officer Nobbs joined the Navy 11 years ago. Today, he serves as a sonar technician aboard the U.S.S. Ross.
“I joined the Navy because I needed structure in my life,” he said. “I joined the Navy specifically because I felt like it can take you almost anywhere in the world.”
