WALL TOWNSHIP — The township committee approved a new redevelopment plan for the Route 33/34 corridor at its Oct. 25 meeting. Thirteen affordable housing [AH] zones in all seven districts will be affected, some including vacant or “run down,” properties, according to township administrator Jeff Bertrand.
“We need to liven up this area,” Mr. Bertrand told The Coast Star on Oct. 26. “If you haven’t taken a drive along this corridor, I suggest you do and see for yourself why we’d be doing this.”
The Route 33/34 Corridor and Motel Sites Redevelopment Plan, Ordinance No. 8-2023, was approved unanimously. It includes 25 parcels, some with motel properties now designated as “commercial,” “vacant” and “residence.”
According to Mr. Bertrand, the committee is using the plan to “kill two birds with one stone,” revitalizing the corridor area in order to entice developers, and also to successfully fulfill the state’s affordable housing mandates.
