BRIELLE — The Brielle Public Library is honoring those who served with a dinner on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.
A 50/50 raffle, full meals, slideshow and brand new flag raising will take place during the banquet. Brielle Library estimates that at least 100 veterans will be attending the dinner. The first being held, the Veterans’ Luncheon, is to give thanks to those who donned the uniform.
“We’re looking for it to be a special night for them [the veterans],” said Brielle Library Director Maribeth Pelly. “It’s to show just how much we appreciate these people, whether they’re from Brielle or not. Anyone is welcome.”
Ms. Pelly has made efforts to publicize and market the event to all veterans, going as far as appointing a “veteran liaison” to the library, Brielle native and Vietnam veteran Stan Mazur. Mr. Mazur served in the 101st Airborne Division and “boosted his draft stock” after graduating in June 1967.
