BRADLEY BEACH — Kristen Mahoney received a standing ovation after receiving three votes to fill the vacant spot left by borough administrator Meredith DeMarco’s resignation on Sept. 30 at the Oct. 11 council meeting. Ms. Mahoney received votes from Councilmen Al Gubitosi, John Weber and Councilwoman Jane DeNoble.
“It feels great…I’m really honored that I would get the support of Jane [DeNoble], Al [Gubitosi] and John [Weber],” said Ms. Mahoney to The Coast Star following adjournment. “And I’m excited to serve the people, community and businesses of Bradley Beach, New Jersey.”
The council then voted to appoint Jane DeNoble as council president. All members of the council, excluding the newly-appointed Ms. Mahoney [who abstained], voted in favor of the appointment.
The lone no vote on the motion to appoint Ms. Mahoney came from Mayor Larry Fox, who had nominated former council candidate Deborah Bruynell for the vacant position. Ms. Bruynell lost in the November 2022 Election by only a few votes to Councilman Gubitosi. The mayor referred to the council’s dismissal of Ms. Bruynell and failure to second his motion to vote as “unfortunate.”
