POINT PLEASANT — Local chef Devon Smith gave an informative presentation on cooking with seasonal fruits and vegetables at the Point Pleasant Library on Tuesday.
Ms. Smith, the owner of Devon’s Kitchen in Sea Girt, teaches cooking classes and demos for events, such as the one at the library. She also works with children in schools to show them new and unique ways to eat fruits and vegetables by promoting healthy eating. She has classes for both kids and adults.
At Tuesday’s event, Ms. Smith not only demonstrated to a packed audience how to prepare some healthy and delicious snacks using seasonal and vegetables, but also had many treats already prepared for the crowd to taste. She had made herb roasted vegetables and chocolate pomegranate bars.
She has owned her business for 10 years; prior to that she was an English teacher before she had her children.
“I was home with [my] kids and I was doing a ‘food is healing, food is medicine’ kind-of thing for myself, for what has been 27 years now,” Ms. Smith said.
She further said this bloomed rapidly, as she began cooking for other families and organizations after they heard about what she was making and how she promoted health above all, while still making the food delicious.
