BELMAR — Three Belmar Junior Lifeguards were honored by the borough and council at their meeting Tuesday night for their placements in this year’s junior lifeguarding tournament.
Council President Mark Levis presented sisters Morgan, 14, and Kailyn Koonce, 16, and Ryan Abogadal, 15, with their awards in the 2023 Jersey Mike’s United States Lifesaving Association [USLA] National Junior Lifeguard Championships, held on Aug. 9 in Virginia Beach.
According to the USLA website, Kailyn won first place in the U19 Beach Sprint Female 201 category and third place in the U19 Beach Flags Female 230. Morgan took home first place in the Division A Beach Flags Female 430 category and second place in the division A Distance Run Female 400 category. Ryan came in first place for the division A Beach Flags Make 330 category.
A resolution to establish a military veteran banners program to recognize the services of borough residents was also adopted at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
