BELMAR — The Belmar Housing Authority [BHA] Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved a resolution to begin modernization of the building’s elevator.
“All the guts are going to be taken out of it and it’s going to get major surgery,” said BHA Executive Director Paul DeSantis.
The resolution approved by the commissioners at the Oct. 3 meeting states that “immediate action was required” regarding repair work for the deteriorating elevator and designates $165,000 to Jersey Elevator for the emergency modernization project.
The executive director explained that they had received “three or four estimates from contractors” after sending the project out for bid. One of the factors that led to their decision to contract Jersey Elevator was their previous knowledge of the building, he said.
“They were a couple dollars more on the modernization. However, their monthly maintenance charge would have eaten up that difference in about two months,” Mr. DeSantis said. “So with Jersey Elevator, we are getting a lower monthly maintenance charge.”
