BRICK TOWNSHIP — Ballers & Bookworms, a nonprofit organization that provides free athletic training, academic support and financial assistance to youth from underserved communities, is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural event, Battles of the Ballers & Bookworms.
This event is a series of three competitions that aim to promote equitable academic and athletic growth within Monmouth and Ocean counties, with the first competition taking place in Brick Township.
The first competition is a spelling bee for fifth graders, which will take place on Dec. 2 at Veterans Memorial Elementary School in Brick Township. The spelling bee will test the students’ spelling in a fun and friendly environment.
The winning speller will receive a trophy and a $2,500 scholarship. The school of the winner will also receive a $1,000 donation from Ballers & Bookworms.
Tyler Kazio and Julian Viera, the co-founders of Ballers & Bookworms, said that they are thrilled to host this event and hope that it will inspire more student-athletes to pursue their dreams.
“We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to excel in both academics and athletics, regardless of their background or ability. We want to celebrate their achievements and help them overcome any barriers they may face,” they said.
