BRADLEY BEACH — Demolition bid preparations are in the works for the former United Methodist Church at 319 LaReine Avenue — but so are attempts to preserve artifacts from the property, according to Bradley Beach Mayor Larry Fox.
Mayor Fox first discussed the process of preparing bid specifications, which are required to set the rules for going out to bid and ultimately choosing a company to do the demolition.
“After a few pauses in the disposal of the 319 LaReine Ave. church, the borough seems to have a path forward,” he said. “Over the next few weeks, we will clarify the engineering company requirements and will tentatively award the contract via resolution at the Sept. 27 council meeting.”
The mayor also said that he had gotten in touch with an expert in the field, Rose O’Connor, to appraise possibly valuable items relating to the United Methodist Church, and that she will come back with an appraisal estimate for stained glass windows and other items.
“Rose O’Connor will provide an overview of the work she has performed to assess the artifacts in the church. We will discuss engaging Ms. O’Connor to assist us in timely disposition of the artifacts,” he said.
