SPRING LAKE — The Greater Spring Lake Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Italian Festival on Saturday, Sept. 23 with performances from a Frank Sinatra impersonator as well as a spaghetti-eating contest.
“We have had it for a long time, easily over a dozen years,” said Ellen Manger, the executive director of the chamber. “We want to celebrate Italian heritage. We might be called the Irish Riviera but so many people here are of Italian descent…Come and be Italian for the day.”
Much like the annual Irish Festival, the Italian Festival will close off Morris Avenue from noon to 5 p.m. and welcome music, food and community engagement. According to Ms. Manger, the streets will be lined with Italian flags, and local people from all over Spring Lake can smell all of the wonderful foods.
“Italian food draws everyone,” said Ms. Manger. “We will have all Italian food, Italian restaurants, Italian pastry…Arugula is there on the street and Joseph’s Delicatessen; he has been there for years.”
