BELMAR — The 47th annual Belmar 5K Marathon, presented by the borough, Goodwill Hose Fire Company and the Jersey Shore Running Club, is preparing to take its mark at the starting line on Saturday, Sept. 2.
The annual marathon first began in August 1977 and has seen thousands of runners join the streets for their chance at earning a medal, with last year’s race welcoming more than 2,750 registrants. According to a press release, “The course has basically remained the same for all 47 years along the beautiful beaches and boardwalk on Ocean Avenue, around Lake Como and Silver Lake and winding through the streets of Belmar.”
Participants will gather at Silver Lake Park, 410 Seventh Avenue, as early as 6:30 a.m. on the morning of the race for late registration and bib pickup as they get ready for the sounding gun starting the race at 8 a.m. sharp.
Each registered participant for the race will receive a unisex technical t-shirt, designed by artist Jacqueline Allen, as well as a finisher’s medal. Additionally, the first 2,000 pre-registered runners also receive a commemorative drawstring backpack bag.
The awards ceremony will be held after the race concludes around 9:30 a.m. at Silver Lake Park, where over $1,700 in prize money will be awarded to age group and overall winners. A post-race party will also be held at Bar Anticipation at approximately 11 a.m., where participants will be able to enjoy entertainment alongside a complimentary barbecue and drink specials and more awards will be distributed, including two bicycles and gift cards donated by local merchants.
